Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my photo session take?

Depending on what type of session, whether in our studio and/or on- location, how many people are involved,  your session will generally last from an hour to up to 2.5 hours (particularly with newborns and young children). Please be assured that when you book your creative session, we will plan plenty of time together to create wonderful portraits. If we will work both in studio and on location allow an additional 1.5 hours.  Especially with children we will allow plenty of time for breaks (bathroom, diaper changes, water, snacks, just resting/play, etc.) It is important to us that you never feel rushed in any way.

How far in advance do I need to schedule my session?

As soon as you know you want a session!   You have more options to choose from with regard to dates and times if you plan ahead. We do suggest that newborn sessions be held when they are around 8 to 14 days old. For pregnancy sessions, you will want to schedule your session for sometime between 7 and 8 months, if possible.  Seniors wanting graduation invitations/announcements should schedule their session anytime after school starts until mid March.  This will allow plenty of time for ordering and receiving your products.

Where will my session take place?

Many of our clients choose to come to our studio for their sessions. The studio is located in our home. Our location is conveniently located in Frisco; easily accessed by all surrounding communities, including, Plano, Allen, Denton, Little Elm, The Colony, McKinney, Prosper, etc. via Hwy 121, the Dallas North Tollway, Hwy 75 or Hwy 380.

A “location session” can be held at your home, outdoors at an area park or other location that is special to you.  These sessions are much different than a studio session, being more candid, casual and a fun way of telling your story.  Young children are often more comfortable in an environment familiar to them.  Pets can be included in our location sessions.  We encourage you to bring along that new car, boat, motorcycle, etc. as well.  This session can also be combined with a studio session.

What about the session fee ?

The session fee is paid in advance when you book your session.   This is a non-refundable retainer to reserve your date and time. We accept cash, checks and most credit cards. Please make checks payable to Ahh! Photography and Studios.

What is your policy regarding rescheduling my session?

Due to the length of time that we spend with you or your children, we are only able to book a limited number of sessions per week. This is why we do ask that you pay the retainer for your session when you book with us. Please be considerate with regards to rescheduling due to illness or emergency. We ask for 48 hours notice, if possible. However, we do realize that emergencies and illnesses happen and are happy to work with you to find a better time for your session in those circumstances.

If you need to reschedule, your retainer will go towards your rescheduled session (provided it is within 3 months of the original session date). If you do not reschedule your session within 3 months, you will forfeit your retainer. You are more than welcome to start over with a new retainer if you like.

This also applies to Showcase Appointments.  We allow 1 and 1/2 hours per Showcase appointment. Please plan to be here at the scheduled time.  After two reschedules a late ordering fee will be applied to your order.

What can I expect at my Showcase Appointment?

At the end of your session, we will make an appointment for you to come back to the studio in 10 to 14 days for a very special Showcase Appointment.  At this appointment you will view a slideshow, set to music, of your portraits (only one or two will be retouched as an example of what we will do with the images you choose to invest in).  After the show, we will assist you through the process of narrowing down the images and placing your order. We ask that anyone important to the decision making process be present at the appointment as this is when you will be placing your order. Be thinking of who will be receiving portraits and where in your home you plan to display them. We require full payment at the time you place your order.  We understand that this may not be feasible in all situations and are willing to work out a payment plan if necessary.  We accept cash, check and most credit cards.

When will my order be ready?

You can expect your order to be ready for pick-up approximately 4-6 weeks after placing your order. Please allow for additional time for framed or hand-tinted artwork or during holiday rushes.

Do you shoot in color?

We shoot all our sessions in color however we sometimes feel our client will look their best when the image is converted to black and white.  Often we will present a portrait in both formats, letting our client choose the one that appeals to them the most.  Please, if you have a preference let us know before your session.  We try to plan ahead for each session and the look you want can make a difference in how it is shot.

I don’t live in Texas, are you available to travel to another state for my session?

We are happy to discuss out of area location sessions.  We love to travel!  Please contact us to discuss your needs.
